The Konnected Foundation INC. Inc. was created in 2012 as a response to the growing impact
experienced with the onset of the Queen City Awards- the largest participated celebration of local
entertainment since 2005. Founder Kevan Glover realized the value in revitalizing Charlotte’s
cultural community and decided to create an ongoing extension of outreach distinct to various
genres of music and entertainment- representative of our diverse metropolitan. One Of Our Main
Sources Of Raising Money Is The Funds From The Konnected Radio Station.
Bringing unique experiences to the community in order to forge connectivity, has been a constant
with the 501(c)(3). In 2015, The Konnected Foundation Inc collaborated with local artists and
Kaboom to create “playspaces” for kids and their caretakers near local transit stops. Since 2017, the
MLK walk and post-walk showcase allowed citizens of all ages and ethnicities to walk for a common
cause and present work about unity, peace, and equality. Since 2018, it united dancers ages 5 to 80
in community workshops taught by former Alvin Ailey and current Hamilton dancers. In 2019, the
Foundation began its “Konnected to College Experience Program” by taking a group of high school
students to Atlanta to experience the Black College Expo; participants were able to meet with
college reps, apply for onsite scholarships, and attend seminars centered on applying for college
and obtaining scholarships. The Konnected Foundation Inc not only creates events to bring the community together; it creates
events to serve as fundraising opportunities to distribute scholarships. Events, such as The Queen
City Awards, Strike for The Arts, Kick 4 A Cause, and Pearl Oden Hoop 4 A Cause, serve as annual
fundraisers for The Konnected to Excellence Scholarship. This scholarship identifies youth who have
exemplified excellence in and outside of the classroom to develop their skills in the arts. Since 2015,
the nonprofit has given over 200 arts-based scholarships. Recognizing that great students come
from great educators, the Foundation created The Konnected to Excellence in Education Award,
where those in education are nominated by students for their excellence in the classroom and in the
community. Educators are honored at The Queen City Awards with a plaque and a monetary
stipend. In the coming year, The Foundation will expand to offer sports-based scholarships to youth
and coaches.
Recently, The Konnected Foundation Inc has revamped its strategies to fulfill its mission to “Build a
Better Life Thru The Arts”. Beginning in 2020, through the Konnected to Your Craft Program, it will
offer monthly skill-centered workshops for youth who are interested in the Arts and Communication.
Participants will be able to take classes in the performing and visual arts, as well as Videography,
Marketing, DJing, Journalism, Hosting, Production, Artist Development, and Event Planning. This will
allow participants to gain the necessary skills in order to organize and run events sponsored by The
Konnected, as well as the confidence to use these skills in a career setting.Mission Statement – Building A Better Life Thru Arts
Vision Statement – To heighten interests and increase resources to make a practical contribution to our community by way of the arts and entertainment
